Margaret (Maggie) Keane represents successful professionals from a wide variety of industries and their spouses in complex family law matters.
Maggie’s practice mostly involves the litigation and appeal of issues such as business valuations, estate planning vehicles such as trusts, and high-conflict parenting disputes. She also has extensive experience protecting her client’s assets through the drafting of pre and post-marital agreements.
Prior to joining Berger Schatz, Maggie served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Jill K. McNulty of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, where she developed a strong understanding of appellate procedure, as well as the ability to craft creative arguments and strategies that are likely to succeed in both the trial and appellate courts. During her tenure at Berger Schatz, Maggie has drafted numerous appeals, some of which have resulted in seminal family law decisions.
Why Clients Choose Maggie
Maggie has the unique ability to look at the big picture when strategizing cases and to craft the appropriate approach to each individual case based on the client’s needs. She maintains a level head even in the face of extreme contention, working to resolve the matter in the most cost-effective and efficient manner possible.
Approach
While comfortable in a courtroom setting, Maggie believes that litigation is not always the preferable route to resolve a case. She is a skilled negotiator and has settled even the most difficult cases outside of court, often utilizing various alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods, including mediation and collaborative law.
